Your card is printed on biodegradable seed paper that grows wildflowers — just plant, water, and grow!
STEP 1: PREPARE YOUR POT
Fill your pot 2/3 full with good potting soil — firmly full, but not packed. we recommend placing the pot indoors in a bright, sunny spot that isn't too cold. Keeping the seed paper inside keeps your outside environment protected.
STEP 2: PLANT YOUR PAPER
Take your plantable paper and place it on the soil in your pot. if you have room you can lay the whole card flat. If not, you can tear it in half or into smaller pieces to fit the space (Note: It's okay if the paper overlaps!).
STEP 3: COVER + WATER
Spread a 1/8 inch layer of soil over the top of the the paper and gently press down. After planting, give your pot a good soak. You want the paper and the soil to be damp, but not swimming in water. Keep the paper moist until sprouts appear (generally within 10-14 days!).

NOTE: The most eco-friendly way to enjoy your flowers is to plant your card in a pot indoors. While the seeds in our paper are USDA and CFIA approved, tested for noxious weeds, and considered generally non-invasive, every region has its own local regulations and ecological concerns — please check your local regulations before planting outdoors and respect any restrictions in your area!
WHAT KIND OF FLOWERS ARE THEY?
our seed paper includes 6 different types of annual and perennial wildflower seeds. the seed varieties include:
Clarkia | Clarkia unguiculata – Annual
Bird's Eye | Gilia tricolor – Annual
Black-Eyed Susan | Rudbeckia hirta – Perennial
Snapdragon | Linaria maroccana – Annual
Catchfly | Silene armeria – Annual
Sweet Alyssum | Lobularia maritima – Annual
sprouts will generally appear within 10-14 days (as long as they are kept moist and in a sunny spot!). you can expect blooming flowers in about 12-14 weeks.
all seed varieties included in our paper are non-GMO and tested for purity by a 3rd party lab to ensure they are free of noxious weeds. none of the varieties are considered invasive in the United States or Canada (USDA and CFIA approved). however, we advise all recipients check their region's local restrictions prior to planting outdoors to confirm they do not pose any risk to the local environment.
the Clarkia, Bird’s Eye, Black-Eyed Susan, and Catchfly are all native to North America. the Sweet Alyssum seed is native in Europe, and Snapdragon are native to Morocco. additional questions/concerns about the seeds in your cards? shoot us an email at: hello@thougthfulhuman.co.
for best results, we recommend planting within 2 years and storing in a cool, dry place until planting.
you can use any writing utensil available, but the best results will be from a regular ball point pen. 3rd party lab testing has found no negative impacts to the soil or flowers as a result of the ink printed on the card or ink written in them. happy planting!
treating the plant from your card like other house plants that you don’t want pets to get into is a good rule of thumb. Most of the wildflowers are non-toxic; however, the snapdragon and catchfly have a possibility of ill-effects if they are eaten, mostly in large quantities. it’s unlikely there would be any effects in the quantity included in a single card, but it’s best to keep out of reach of any curious, furry friends as a precaution!
